July 15, 2026 — Parents and Grandparents Program intake pause
IRCC announced it would pause new intake under the permanent-residence Parents and Grandparents Program. Existing applications continue to be processed. The Super Visa remains a distinct, temporary-visit pathway and continues to be available for eligible applicants.
March 31, 2026 — expanded options to demonstrate host income
Super Visa hosts may qualify with income in either of the two previous tax years, or use the 75%-plus-parent-income alternative where eligible. Supporting evidence remains essential.
January 28, 2025 — certain foreign insurance providers become eligible
Policies from specific qualified foreign insurers can satisfy the Super Visa requirement if they meet OSFI and IRCC conditions. Do not confuse a foreign broker or website with an eligible issuing insurance company.
What has not changed
IRCC still expects qualifying one-year private emergency medical insurance with at least $100,000 in coverage, including hospitalization, health care and repatriation. Applicants must have paid insurance—not just an estimate.
