The insurance checklist
- At least $100,000 in emergency medical coverage for each applicant.
- At least one year of policy validity from the intended date of entry.
- Coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation.
- Issued by an eligible Canadian insurer or qualifying foreign insurer.
- Paid in full or through qualifying instalments with a deposit—not merely quoted.
- Valid for each entry to Canada; proof may be requested at the border.
Other Super Visa eligibility conditions
The applicant must apply from outside Canada, complete an immigration medical examination and satisfy admissibility rules. The host must be an eligible child or grandchild in Canada, age 18 or older, with the required status, income and signed invitation letter. Read IRCC’s current eligibility requirements.
New income assessment methods since March 31, 2026
IRCC now permits qualifying income from either of the two tax years before applying. Alternatively, a host who reaches at least 75% of the income threshold in the preceding tax year may add the visiting parent’s or grandparent’s income, subject to proof and combined threshold rules. Read the official change.
Proof when travelling
Keep the insurance certificate, travel documents and related supporting records accessible. If the insurance expires before the visitor leaves Canada, renew it to maintain protection during the stay.
