What IRCC accepts
IRCC states that a policy must be paid in full or in instalments with a deposit; an unpaid quote does not qualify. A policy must meet the $100,000 minimum, one-year duration, coverage scope and eligible-insurer rules. Verify the latest wording at IRCC.
What to compare with instalments
- Upfront deposit or initial months collected.
- Policy effective date and full-year duration shown on confirmation.
- Recurring instalment schedule and total amount payable.
- Potential setup or processing fees.
- Cancellation, nonpayment and reinstatement consequences.
- Whether insurer documentation is accepted for the intended Super Visa application.
Why one-year validity still matters
Paying monthly does not remove the minimum one-year policy validity condition. The issued document—not the advertised payment option—must show that the necessary coverage is in force under the contractual terms.
When paying in full may be better
If total cost, refund flexibility or the risk of missed payments outweigh cash-flow convenience, an annual payment may be preferable. Compare the complete numbers before deciding.
