What stability means
Insurers often evaluate whether a condition remained unchanged during a defined look-back period before the effective date. The exact number of days, medication changes, tests, treatment and symptoms that count vary by policy.
Common conditions to disclose
- Diabetes and blood sugar control
- High blood pressure and medication changes
- Heart disease or prior heart procedures
- Respiratory conditions and inhaler use
- Cancer history, investigations and follow-up care
- Any recent change in symptoms or treatment
Don’t assume all plans treat medical history alike
One insurer may allow certain stable histories under a plan, while another excludes them or imposes longer stability conditions. Some emergency claims may be unrelated to a pre-existing condition; policy definitions control what is eligible.
How to prepare before comparing
Have an up-to-date medication list, condition dates, relevant recent changes and travel start date available. Answer all quote and medical questionnaire questions completely and accurately.
