Coverage amount comparison
| Coverage limit | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| $100,000 | IRCC minimum, subject to all other policy requirements |
| $150,000 | Additional limit for eligible covered emergencies if offered |
| $200,000+ | Potentially more headroom for expensive eligible claims, at additional premium |
Limit is not a guarantee
Policy maximums apply only to insured eligible benefits. Deductibles, exclusions, stability clauses, waiting periods and claims conditions still matter. A plan with a large stated maximum may not cover every medical event.
The deductible trade-off
A deductible is the share of eligible expenses you are responsible for according to the contract. A higher deductible can sometimes lower cost, but your family must be comfortable with that exposure.
A practical decision framework
Start with immigration compliance, then evaluate parent’s age, potential severity of medical emergencies, financial capacity for uncovered expenses and full policy benefits. Compare quotes across limits and read the wording.
